About Luke Ryan

Trainer, Assessor & Director

Luke has spent almost 40 years in the mining and civil industries. He started out maintaining dump trucks and loaders at an open-cut coal mine in 1986. Since then he has worked as a plant operator, leading hand and supervisor on road, bridge, airfield, pipeline and gas plant projects across Queensland, NSW, the Northern Territory and the Pilbara, and on coal and iron ore mines operating haul trucks, loaders and water carts.

He has been training and assessing operators since 2015. As Traineeship Coordinator at Rolleston Coal, he trained new-to-industry operators through their Certificate III in Surface Extraction Operations, delivered Standard 11 and S123 supervisor training, and assessed operators on site. He has also run VOCs and group training for civil contractors on major projects, including the Pacific Highway upgrade.

Luke holds the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety, and Certificates III in Civil Plant Operations, Surface Extraction and Civil Construction. He is also ticketed on the machines he teaches, from excavators, dozers and graders to haul trucks, telehandlers and EWPs.

Students get a trainer who has done the job, explains things clearly, and is patient with first-timers and experienced operators alike.
